Princeton French Film Festival | Screening of “Chocolat” (1988) followed by Q&A with Actor Isaach de Bankolé
Fri, 4/26 · 7:30 pm—10:00 pm · 10 McCosh
Princeton French Film Festival
As part of the second edition of the Princeton French Film Festival, you’re invited to the closing night for an exceptional free screening of the classic and 1988 Cannes-nominee “Chocolat”.
Acclaimed filmmaker Claire Denis drew on her own childhood experiences growing up in colonial French Africa for her multilayered, languorously absorbing feature debut, which explores many of the themes that would recur throughout her work. Returning to the town where she grew up in Cameroon after many years living in France, Aimée (Mireille Perrier) reflects on her relationship with Protée (Isaach De Bankolé) with whom she formed a friendship while not fully grasping the racial divides that governed their worlds. Followed by a Q&A in English with award-winning Actor Isaach De Bankolé.
Free and open to everyone upon registration, this screening will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 7:30 PM (doors open at 7:15 PM) in Princeton University’s McCosh Hall 10 in its original language (French) with English subtitles.
