SUMMARY:Princeton French Film Festival | Screening of “Chocolat" (1988) followed by Q&A with Actor Isaach de Bankolé
DESCRIPTION:As part of the second edition of the Princeton French Film Festival\, you’re invited to the closing night for an exceptional free screening of the classic and 1988 Cannes-nominee “Chocolat”. \nAcclaimed filmmaker Claire Denis drew on her own childhood experiences growing up in colonial French Africa for her multilayered\, languorously absorbing feature debut\, which explores many of the themes that would recur throughout her work. Returning to the town where she grew up in Cameroon after many years living in France\, Aimée (Mireille Perrier) reflects on her relationship with Protée (Isaach De Bankolé) with whom she formed a friendship while not fully grasping the racial divides that governed their worlds. Followed by a Q&A in English with award-winning Actor Isaach De Bankolé. \nFree and open to everyone upon registration\, this screening will take place on Friday\, April 26\, 2024 at 7:30 PM (doors open at 7:15 PM) in Princeton University’s McCosh Hall 10 in its original language (French) with English subtitles. \nCheck out the Festival’s whole schedule on our website below. \nSponsored by:\nPrinceton University: Graduate Student Government Board; GradFUTURES; Department of French & Italian\, Department of African American Studies; Campus Conversation on Identity; Gender + Sexuality Resource Center; Center for Collaborative History; Department of English; Lewis Center for the Arts; Program in Contemporary European Politics & Society; Department of Art & Archeology; Princeton Center for Language Study; Forbes College; Department of Comparative Literature; Department of Music; Davis International Center .
