A historian of early Christianity and a papyrologist, AnneMarie Luijendijk was Chair of the Committee for the Study of Late Antiquity in 2019-20 and member of the Executive Committee of the Humanities Council.

As an Old Dominion Professor in the Humanities Council (2015-16) she worked on a new book on scriptures as artifacts, the sociology of reading, and the development of the New Testament canon, provisionally entitled: From Gospels to Garbage: Early Christian Manuscripts as Material Culture. Her previous books are Greetings in the Lord: Early Christians and the Oxyrhynchus Papyri (2008) and Forbidden Oracles? The Gospel of the Lots of Mary (2014).
