The members of the Russian Romani (“Gypsy”) Zingaresca Ensemble (Oleg Timofeyev, Vadim Kolpakov, and Anton Belov) will be special guests at a Slavic Department seminar on Wednesday, April 9th (1:30-4:20 pm) for a film screening and discussion. The seminar will focus on the vibrant world of East European Romani music-making and the musicians who practice it. It will include Arbatfilm’s recent documentary, The Gypsy Vengerka (90 min., 2022), which features the Zingaresca Ensemble, followed by a conversation and Q & A session with the musicians. They will also discuss their artistry and repertoire, demonstrate the iconic “Romani” seven-string guitar, as well as consider the role of Romani musicians in society. The seminar is open to the Princeton University campus community.
