Program in Translation & Intercultural Communication
Join Ukrainian writer and historian Olena Stiazhkina, her American translator Dominique Hoffman, and Princeton’s Translator in Residence Hanna Leliv for a conversation about writing and translating war in Ukraine. Participants will discuss Ukraine’s complex linguistic landscape and explore recent shifts in language and identity as reflected in Stiazhkina’s latest novel, “Cecil the Lion Had to Die.” Hoffman will also share her experience of translating into English this tour de force of stylistic registers and intertwining voices.
