The Politicization of American Jewish Politics and Philanthropy
Over the last year, many of the core institutions of American Jewish life, including federations, private foundations, and other communal organizations, have made a point to emphasize their remove from politics. Berman shows how American religious and philanthropic institutions took their shape from state policies intended to narrow the terrain of political expression by rewarding with legal and financial power those groups that professed a clear division between the political and the not political.
