Department of French and Italian

Philosopher and theologian Damien Delorme (Universities of Geneva and Lausanne) explores the intersections of philosophy, ecology, and lived experience. Engaging directly with ecological, artistic, and agrarian practices, his research in field philosophy focuses on conservation values, care and virtue ethics, and the emergence of the ecological self within the framework of First-Person Ecology, which bridges ecophenomenology, deep ecology, and ecopsychology.

In his first book, L’Autre Rêve américain (Actes Sud, 2025), Delorme recounts a 6,000-mile bicycle journey from Miami to Vancouver in search of ecotopias — spaces of experimentation and resistance where communities enact alternative ways of inhabiting the world. His Princeton visit will include a presentation on how such field encounters can bring about the “ecological self,” followed by a roundtable with Murielle Perrier, Raphaël Piguet, Bill Hamlett, Grace Yan (Princeton University) and Sarah Stewart-Kroeker (Princeton Theological Seminary)
