Tina M. Campt, Roger S. Berlind ’52 Professor of Humanities; Department of Art and Archeology and the Lewis Center for the Arts.

September 13, 2022 · 5:00 pm6:30 pm · Room N107, School of Architecture

Tina Campt, newly appointed Roger S. Berlind ’52 Professor of Humanities in the Department of Art & Archaeology and the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University, will discuss her recent book, A Black Gaze (MIT Press, 2021). Examining Black contemporary artists who resuscitate and revalue the historical and contemporary archive of Black life in radical ways, Campt reveals how new ways of seeing shift viewers from the passive optics of looking at to the active struggle of looking with, through, and alongside the suffering—and joy—of Black life in the present.
