Department of French and Italian; New Italian Cinema Events (N.I.C.E)
Screening: “The film Un uomo deve essere forte (A man must be strong)” by Ilaria Ciavattini and Elsi Perino will be available from Wednesday, October 13th until Wednesday, October 27th, 2021.
In the outskirts of a province of the north of Italy, full of gun factories, hunting grounds, and lakes for fishing, Jessica starts the transition in order to let her body be what she has always felt to be: a man. Stuck in a routine made of part-time jobs, bar friends, and no hobbies, the newborn Jack starts questioning what it means, beyond his physical body, to be a man, what kind of man he should be, and what kind of models of masculinity, among those offered in the valley, he should identify with.
Q&A with the film directors Ilaria Ciavattini and Elsi Perino: Thursday, October 28th, 2021, 4 pm on Zoom. Please email Kelly Eggers: keggers@princeton.edu for the links for the screening and to participate in the Zoom Q&A.
