The Department of African American Studies invites you to a screening of Memory of Princess Mumbi, hosted by Dr. Adriana Green, AY26 Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Memory of Princess Mumbi transports viewers into a speculative, retro‑futurist African nation where history, technology, and desire collide. The film follows a filmmaker attempting to reconstruct the life and death of Princess Mumbi while interviewing survivors of a devastating Great War. As he navigates the ethics of using AI to shape his narrative—and becomes entangled in an unexpected love triangle—the story unfolds as both mockumentary and romance. Blending nostalgia with visions of an advanced future, the film probes memory, loss, imperialism, and the politics of storytelling.

Following the screening, director Damien Hauser will join us virtually for a moderated conversation and audience Q&A.

This event is open to all members of the Princeton University community.
