Hirayama seems utterly content with his simple life as a cleaner of toilets in Tokyo. Outside of his very structured everyday routine he enjoys his passion for music and for books. And he loves trees and takes photos of them. Koji Yakusho’s portrayal of Hirayam earned him the Award for Best Actor at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.A series of unexpected encounters gradually reveal more of his past. Directed by Wim Wenders, the film was produced by Wim Wenders, Takuma Takasaki, and Koji Yanai.

This screening is in association with the public talk “From The Tokyo Toilet to Perfect Days” by Mr. Koji Yanai, taking place on Thursday, November 9 at 4:30 pm in Arthur Lewis Auditorium, Robertson Hall.
