Screening of The Fishbowl (La Pecera) followed by Q&A with film director Glorimar Marrero Sánchez

April 15, 5pm at 010 East Pyne, Princeton University (doors open at 4:30pm).

La Pecera/The Fishbowl (Puerto Rico/Spain, 2022, 92 min. In Spanish with English Subtitles), directed by Glorimar Marrero Sánchez, tells the story of a visual artist from Vieques as she faces terminal cancer and decides to return to her community, which is still dealing with the effects and toxicity of decades of U.S. military testing ground for war. It is a film that talks about grief, colonialism, ecological harm, and gender, as it makes us see the ecological and social consequences of U.S. colonialism, as well as about the power of a community that resisted it.

The film made history being the first Puerto-Rican produced film to premiere at 2023 Sundance Film Festival, and to receive a nomination for the prestigious Goya Award for Best Ibero-American Film (2024). The film received numerous international accolades, including Best Film at the Cyprus Film Days and the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best Latin American Film at the Forqué Awards, and received two nominations at the Platino Awards
