A screening of the film Biguine (2004) with its director, Guy Deslauriers, and the film’s writer, Patrick Chamoiseau. In French; Runtime: 1h30m.
In Martinique, at the end of the 19th century. Abandoning the plantation in which they work, Hermansia and Tiquitaque, a couple of musicians, decide to settle in Saint-Pierre, at its peak. But they will quickly become disillusioned: the majestic city, fascinated by Western music and instruments, rejects their drums, their bamboo pipes, and their plantation songs. A long drift will then begin, during which they will learn these rhythms from elsewhere. Their talent gave birth to the Biguine, a Métis creation of incredible vitality that would become the symbol of Saint-Pierre.
