Daisy Rockwell
Daisy Rockwell will explore the notion of translation as occupying a space on a continuum between two languages, rather than a transfer between language A and language B. The art of translating South Asian literature into English with an emphasis on the role of English in South Asia over time will be discussed. Rockwell will also examine how various South Asian aesthetic principles and forms of literary ornamentation, such as dhwani, has informed her thinking about translation.
