A discussion of the social in Indian cinemas in the past and the present; and how questions of caste, class, gender, and inequality appear in films.

Roundtable 2 (1:30 pm -3:00 pm): What is Political Cinema Today?

A discussion of the political in documentaries, feature films, art, and popular films.

Panelists include Tejaswini Ganti (New York University), Debashree Mukherjee (Columbia University), Meheli Sen (Rutgers University), Pavitra Sundar (Hamilton College), Prakash Jha (filmmaker). Moderated by Gyan Prakash (History).
