Borges’s El Inmortal: Learning from the Manuscript

Program in Latin American Studies, Dan Balderston 216 Burr Hall

April 26, 2018 · 12:00 pm1:20 pm · 216 Aaron Burr

El Inmortal was first published (as Los Inmortales) in Anales de Buenos Aires in 1947, and it was included in El Aleph in 1949 as the lead story. Famously complex in its intertextuality, it includes several explicit (and at least one hidden) “intrusiones, o hurtos” from various other texts. This talk will examine what it can tell us about Borges’s writing process in the 1940s.
