What is the relationship between art and social movements? How does this relationship shape the everyday experiences of people who identify as Black or Afro-descendant, immigrant, or diasporic? How are the stories of these human actors connected across time, geographies, and cultural expressions? “Black in the World: Art. Resistance. Belonging” brings together a group of creators including filmmakers, painters, performers, and poets from the African diaspora to think about these very questions with our Princeton learning community. A second gathering of its kind (following the “Undocumented. Black. Citizen.” event held in 2024), this half-day symposium expands conversations on race beyond the United States is an attempt to further develop our transnational and global intellectual engagements and our diversity of thought and inquiry. Registration is required, and seats are limited.
