Program in Latin American Studies
This talk will examine the reception and appropriation of classical Greece and Rome in the Dominican Republic, along the long arc of its trajectory from colony to nation. It will argue that this appropriation is bound to a racialized cultural-nationalistic program that continues to exert a powerful subterranean influence on Dominican debates about statehood and race.
