Armenia’s Democracy and its Regional Security Challenges (Hybrid Event)

Lilit Makunts, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States of America

March 1, 2022 · 12:00 pm1:00 pm · 202 Jones Hall and Zoom

Institute for Transregional Studies, NES

Lilit Makunts will highlight the democratic path of the Republic of Armenia since its independence in 1991. This path has been challenging for the young republic which has had to demonstrate the courage to advocate for democratic principles while facing security challenges on an unprecedented scale.

The victory of the peaceful Velvet Revolution in May 2018 manifested the decisive resolve of the Armenian public to embrace progress and reforms aimed at fighting corruption, strengthening the justice system and the rule of law, as well as consolidating democracy, human rights, and fundamental freedoms.
Ambassador Makunts will underscore that Armenia’s society and political leadership view democracy not only from the perspective of state building, but also as an important security component.

This is a hybrid event. If you would like to attend via Zoom, you can register here.
