The M.S. Chadha Center for Global India is hosting India-based filmmaker, Shaunak Sen, for a screening of his critically acclaimed film, All That Breathes, followed by a discussion with Gyan Prakash, Dayton-Stockton Professor of History.
About the film: In one of the world’s most populated cities, two brothers—Nadee” and Saud—devote their lives to the quixotic effort of protecting the black kite, a majestic bird of prey essential to the ecosystem of New Delhi that has been falling from the sky at alarming rates. Amid environmental toxicity and social unrest, the “kite brothers” spend day and night caring for the creatures in their makeshift avian basement hospital.

Sen explores the connection between the kites and the brothers who help them return to the skies, offering a mesmerizing chronicle of inter-species coexistence. ‘All That Breathes,” directed by Shaunak Sen, won both the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and Best Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was also nominated for an Academy Award.
