19th Annual Humanities Colloquium: Timeliness
September 11, 2025 · 4:30 pm—6:00 pm · Chancellor Green Rotunda
Humanities Council
What does it mean to be “timely” and to what extent should the Humanities engage with notions of timeliness?
While timeliness might suggest immediate relevance, it also requires an understanding of the connections between past, present, and future. Every moment is embedded within a complex web of histories and ongoing historical relationships.
This year’s Humanities Colloquium features distinguished Princeton scholars who will explore interpretations of timeliness through diverse disciplinary perspectives.
Speakers:
- Eduardo Cadava (English), “Severed; or, the Noncontemporaneity of Photography”
- Elena Fratto (Slavic Languages and Literatures), “Time, Temperature, and the Pursuit of Efficiency”
- Eric Gregory (Religion), “Augustine, Lament, and the Politics of Time”
- Effie Rentzou (French and Italian), “Present: How to Fight Fascism”
Please join us for an urgent and spirited conversation, moderated by Humanities Council Acting Chair Christina Lee (Spanish and Portuguese). Open to the University community.
