This summer, 10 undergraduate students traveled to Austria with Rubén Gallo (Spanish and Portuguese) and Friederike E. Ach (Comparative Literature) to attend the Salzburg Opera Festival. During the trip, students attended concerts and operas, met with artists and performers, and participated in discussions about the performances they attended. The experience is featured in a recent article, “Princeton Students Sing Praises of Salzburg Opera Festival” in Princeton Alumni Weekly.
The trip was funded by the Humanities Council’s Magic Project, which supports ideas that break new ground intellectually and pedagogically and have the potential to change how the humanities are conceived and taught. The program was hosted by the Council’s Program in European Cultural Studies, which offers a minor in European Studies for students interested in exploring Europe’s past and present through diverse coursework and engaging extracurricular activities. The minor is offered jointly with the Program in Contemporary European Politics and Society.
