The Society for Seventeenth-Century Music | Introducing Cavalli’s Veremonda, l’amazzone di Aragona (1652)

The Society for Seventeenth-Century Music (SSCM) will hold its annual meeting this spring at the Princeton University, April 4-7, 2024.  Hosted by the Department of Music, with the support of the Program in Human Values, the Council of the Humanities, the Program in Italian Studies, the Department of Art and Archaeology, the Department of French and Italian, and the Department of Comparative Literature, the conference will feature three days of scholarly presentations, a dance workshop, lightening talks for graduate students, and two concerts, including excerpts from Wendy Heller’s new critical edition (Bärenreiter) Cavalli’s Veremonda l’amazzone di Aragona (1652), featuring guest countertenor Lawrence Zazzo, musicians and singers from Early Music Princeton, conducted by Michael Pratt; and a concert by the Princeton University Chamber Choir (“Music in Memoriam: Singing about Death in Moscow, Salzburg, Dresden, Constantinople, and London”), presented by the Princeton University Chamber Choir, conducted by Gabriel Crouch, with the Washington Cornet and xSackbut Ensemble, directed by Michael Holmes.   The conference sessions will be held primarily in Taplin Auditorium.
