Princeton alumna Caroline Kitchener ’14 was awarded a 2023 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for her work at The Washington Post, covering stories that “captured the complex consequences of life after Roe v. Wade.” The Pulitzer Prize is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine, online journalism, and literature, and musical composition within the United States.
Kitchener graduated in 2014 with a bachelor of arts in history and a certificate in gender and sexuality studies. While at Princeton, she took the Humanities Council’s Ferris Seminar “The Media in America” with Evan Thomas, former Ferris Professor of Journalism in Residence from 2007 to 2014.
“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to earn the trust of women navigating post-Roe America,” Kitchener shared on Twitter after winning the award. “Thank you, Pulitzer board, for recognizing the importance of their stories. It means the world to me, and to them.”
