Princeton faculty members Allen C. Guelzo (James Madison Program, Humanities Council) and Julian Zelizer (History, SPIA) have been awarded fellowships at the New-York Historical Society. Guelzo has been appointed as the 2022-23 Louise Lehrman Distinguished Fellow and Julian Zelizer has been named as the 2022-23 Lapidus-Weisberg Fellow in American History.
Guelzo is director of the James Madison Program’s Initiative on Politics and Statesmanship and senior research scholar in the Humanities Council. He is the author of numerous works on the American Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. As the Louise Lehrman Distinguished Fellow, he will deliver three public lectures on the chosen theme of Lincoln and democracy over the course of the year.
Zelizer is the Malcolm Stevenson Forbes, Class of 1941 Professor of History and Public Affairs, with joint appointments in the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs and History. He is a leading scholar of American political history, and will spend his fellowship year at work on his latest book, “The Compromise: The Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and the Betrayal of Racial Justice, 1964.”
