Daniel A. Horowitz is a licensed architect and the founder of Architecture Is Free Foundation, an educational non-profit corporation dedicated to breaking down barriers in education and supporting marginalized communities. Dan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Design and a Master’s Degree in Architecture from University of Pennsylvania, where he earned the Arthur Spade Brooks Medal for design excellence. He is currently on the faculty of the University of Hartford College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture. Early in his career, Dan worked closely with Denise Scott Brown, Robert Venturi, and Steven Izenour at Venturi Scott Brown and Associates in Philadelphia before launching a design-build firm in Connecticut. In 2016, Dan closed his business and went back to school. He earned two master’s degrees from Sci-Arc in Architectural Technology and Teaching Pedagogy. He graduated with distinction and was invited to join the Sci-Arc Think Tank. He has since taught at Sci-Arc, Pratt, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He authored several articles on technology and social housing for The Architects Newspaper. He is a Passive House certified builder and an early investor and researcher in blockchain applications and cryptocurrencies. Dan has previously lectured on “Blockchain Urbanism” and “Artificial Intelligence Applications for Architects”.
