CANCELED: Revisiting the Common Ground
April 25, 2020—April 26, 2020 · Marx Hall
Humanities Council; Department of Philosophy
The common ground between participants in a conversation is typically taken to be a body of information that is in some sense shared between those participants. Since its development in the seventies and eighties at the heart of Neo-Gricean pragmatics, the idea of common ground has steadily increased its reach both inside and outside of philosophy. It is time to take stock. This conference will bring together a multifarious range of speakers from philosophy, psychology, computer science and linguistics, to illuminate all the different facets of the common ground, share new ideas and debate issues of common interest.
