Karl Kusserow, the John Wilmerding Curator of American Art, Princeton University Art Museum, and Alan C. Braddock, the Ralph H. Wark Associate Professor of Art History and American Studies, William & Mary are recipients of the 2019 Award for Excellence from the Association of the Art Museum Curators (AAMC).
The annual, peer-juried Award recognizes curators from around the country for groundbreaking projects that have advanced new methodologies, scholarship, and inclusion and access within the arts. Nature’s Nation: American Art and Environment was a reimagining of American art in environmental terms, allowing visitors to think about social and cultural issues, including mass consumerism, industrialization, and immigration. The exhibition opened in October 2018 and included more than 120 paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, videos, and works of decorative art, from the colonial period to the present.
