In October, 2018, Wendy Brown, Professor of Political Science at UC Berkeley, delivered the Fall 2018 Gauss Seminars in Criticism on “Neoliberalism’s Frankenstein,” a compelling talk on the political formations that give rise to neoliberalism. In her public lecture, Brown challenged the idea that the resurgence of the right wing was a response to neoliberalism. She explored the roots of libertarianism, xenophobia, and nationalism within neoliberalism itself.
The following day, in a closed discussion with faculty, Brown extended the argument that neoliberalism aimed to replace society and democracy with a system based on morals and free market movements.
The Spring 2019 Gauss Seminars will feature Fred Moten, Professor of Performance Studies, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, who will discuss the “Poetics of Violence.”
