Bridging language, culture, and community through Korean-language translations, Susie Kim (East Asian Studies), interim director of the Korean Language Program, has played an integral role in McCarter Theatre’s work this year.
Kim’s contributions and translation work span a range of performances, from a recital featuring world-renowned violinist Kyung Wha Chung to the theater’s latest hit, Kim’s Convenience. The collaboration emerged organically through McCarter’s Arts & Ideas program, which links creative work on stage with Princeton scholarship and campus life in partnership with the Humanities Council at Princeton.
“The Arts & Ideas program is rooted in the belief that engaging with the arts impacts all fields, and that academic expertise is applicable to the wider world,” said Debbie Bisno, director of University and artistic partnerships at McCarter, in a story featured on Inside Princeton. “By strategically linking our work with the talent and innovation on campus and creatively collaborating with faculty, staff and students, it distinguishes what we can offer both artists and audiences.”
