McCarter Names Two ‘Arts & Ideas’ Fellows with Support from GradFUTURES Program

January 21, 2026

Princeton humanities students Tatiane Rangel and Margaux Emmanuel have been named inaugural “Arts & Ideas” Fellows at McCarter Theater. The fellowship is funded through the GradFUTURES Social Impact Fellowship, which supports part-time experiential opportunities for Princeton graduate students with nonprofit and public sector organizations that have partnered with the Graduate School

Under the mentorship of Debbie Bisno, director of university and artistic partnerships at McCarter, fellows will support a wide range of McCarter’s programming and contribute to the “Arts & Ideas” initiative, a partnership with the Humanities Council that strategically links Princeton University scholarship to the work on stage and behind the scenes.

Tatiane Rangel is a fourth year PhD candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, where she is researching race, disability, and violence in Latin American and Lusophone African cultural production. She began her fellowship in 2025 and continues her work this spring.

“Working with McCarter has been a deeply meaningful experience for me, creating a space where scholarship and the arts meet and bringing artists, audiences, and institutions into conversation around accessibility,” Rangel said.

Margaux Emmanuel is a first year PhD candidate in French and Italian, with research interests focused on the intersection of modern and contemporary theater, theory, and philosophy.

“As someone who aspires to pursue a theatrical career alongside academia, I am excited by the opportunity to merge scholarship and the arts through enhancing student engagement with McCarter and collaborating across departments and [the University’s residential colleges],” said Emmanuel.
