The Humanities Council invites applications for the Behrman Professorship in the Humanities, with one three-year professorship to begin in AY 2023-24 and another to begin in AY 2024-25. The position is a three-year appointment, with three professors appointed at any one time. Applicants must be Princeton faculty of tenured rank.
The Behrman Professor will enhance the continuity of the double-credit, year-long sequence “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Western Culture” (HUM 216-219) and raise the profile of the Program in Humanistic Studies by supporting the independent research of certificate juniors and seniors. In addition to coordinating a complex course with a 12-faculty team, the Behrman Professor will design and lead activities that offer advanced students explicit practice in bridging a diversity of fields and disciplines.
The certificate in Humanistic Studies enrolls students from all divisions of the University, offering three interdisciplinary sequences, colloquia and excursions, and team-taught seminars in established and emerging fields, including urban, medical, environmental, and digital humanities.
