This fall, Princeton University will host the U.S. hub of the international Being Human festival. The public celebration brings together local organizations, including universities, museums, galleries, libraries, schools, and businesses, to engage with research across the humanities.
The Humanities Council is offering $500 to $3500 grants for Princeton University humanities researchers — undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff — who plan events jointly with community partners. In partnership with the University’s Program for Community-Engaged Scholarship, the Humanities Council will support events taking place this November and December. The 2019 international theme is “Discoveries and Secrets.”
ELIGIBILITY
The Humanities Council encourages creative formats for sharing humanities research with a non-academic audience, preferably in an off-campus setting, in the central New Jersey area. Examples might include tours, broadcasts, screenings, exhibits, and roundtables.
Events may serve between 15–100 people. Grants are intended to defray costs for materials, space, tech support, and refreshments.
Typically, the Humanities Council will be the sole or primary funding source for the event.
HOW TO APPLY
Proposals of 1–2 pages should include the event’s objective, description, venue, personnel, connection with the goals of Being Human, projected audience size, and itemized budget. Please also report any steps you have taken so far to collaborate on the event with community partners. Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis up until the deadline of Friday, September 27.
Applicants will be notified of decisions immediately. Funding will be awarded shortly after acceptance. The Humanities Council will support grantees with logistics and idea development.
