Journalists Julia Ioffe and Deborah Amos to Discuss Russia, Putin, Trump, and Their Careers on the Front Lines

January 12, 2018

On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, investigative journalist Julia Ioffe ’05 (The Atlantic), who is on the front lines of reporting on the Trump-Russia investigation, will be in conversation with Ferris Professor of Journalism Deborah Amos (NPR) about her recent reporting, its challenges and risks, and the harassment she has experienced online from white supremacist groups. The discussion, moderated by Department of Music professor Simon Morrison, will take place in 10 McCosh at 4:30pm. The event is free and open to the public. No tickets required.

Ioffe ranks among the most intrepid, courageous, and industrious journalists in the business. She covers national security and foreign policy topics for The Atlantic. Ioffe inhabits both the American and Russian political worlds, navigating, in her reporting, the fraught present-day dynamic between the two countries. Her powerful, provocative reporting has made her one of the most influential reporters of the post-facts era. Ioffe has previously written for POLITICO, The New Yorker, and The New Republic. Her article “What Putin Really Wants” is the cover story of this month’s issue of The Atlantic. Her 2016 profile of Melania Trump for GQ attracted national attention after Ioffe was targeted by white supremacists. She appears frequently on CNN, MSNBC, and PBS.
