John McPhee, Pulitzer Prize-winning New Yorker writer and author of 29 books, has been Ferris Professor since 1974, teaching two semesters every three years.
Evan Thomas, editor-at-large for Newsweek and author of seven books, is the inaugural Ferris Professor in Residence. The five-year term began in 2007.
