Nominate a Visitor: We welcome faculty nominations for the Gauss Seminars in Criticism. Nominations will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and are usually made a year or more in advance of a potential visit.

History of the Seminars: Instituted in 1949 in honor of Dean Christian Gauss, the Seminars provide a forum for discussion, study, and the exchange of ideas in the humanities.

Seminars 1949 to the Present: The Gauss Seminars span seven decades and have featured some of the most eminent scholars in world.

Gauss Seminars Executive Committee: Members of the executive committee are drawn from Princeton’s 16 humanities departments.
