Philip Nord is a modern European historian with a particular interest in the politics and culture of France since Napoleon.  His books have included studies of the social bases of anti-Dreyfusism, the coming of the Third Republic, the politics of Impressionism, and the remaking of the French state at the Liberation.  He has just completed a volume revisiting France’s “strange defeat” in 1940 and is now working on a new project that deals with debates in France after the Second World War about how to narrate and represent the experience of Deportation.

Project: Memories of Deportation: France, 1945-1985
