Deborah Sontag is a writer and teacher whose celebrated work in journalism spans 35 years, including 25 years at The New York Times. While at The Times she was an investigative reporter, foreign correspondent, Jerusalem bureau chief, magazine staff writer, immigration beat reporter, and editor.

Sontag has also worked for The Miami Herald and The Charleston Gazette. She is the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize and George Polk Award.
