SUMMARY:Translating Classical Arabic Literature Together
DESCRIPTION:Geert Jan van Gelder will speak about two projects\, involving proper collaboration: the translation of The Epistle of Forgiveness by the 11th-century Abū l-ʿAlāʾ al-Maʿarrī (published 2013–14) together with the German scholar Gregor Schoeler\, and the translation of The Story of Abū l-Qāsim al-Baghdādī (nearing completion) by another 11th-century author\, the obscure al-Azdī\, together with the American Arabist Emily Selove.
