TRANS-INDIGENOUS ABIAYALA: 2nd Dialogue in Indigenous Studies at Princeton-Rutgers University
Fri, 10/9 · 2:00 pm—8:00 pm · 010 East Pyne
Department of Spanish and Portuguese
This Princeton–Rutgers conference brings together scholars working in Indigenous Studies across Abya Yala, the Indigenous territory known as the Americas. Drawing on Chadwick Allen’s notion of “trans-Indigenous” methodologies, the event explores connections across Indigenous communities beyond colonial borders, with an interdisciplinary focus on literature, linguistics, film, gender, mapping, and Indigenous knowledge systems.
The conference will feature keynote speaker Amalia Córdova (NYU), filmmaker, curator, and scholar of Indigenous cinema, who will present her new book, “Frames of Resistance: The Cinemas of Abya Yala” (2025). The event will conclude with a screening of Francisco Huichaqueo’s “Mujeres espíritu” (2021), a collective cinematic portrait connecting five Indigenous women poets from Chile, Mexico, and Bolivia.
