SUMMARY:The Haitians: A Decolonial History
DESCRIPTION:The Haitians Book Club is an interdisciplinary working group that welcomes students and scholars\, both inside and outside the academy\, to a series of discussions about “The Haitians: A Decolonial History\,” author Jean Casimir’s landmark work of theory and history. Over the course of the series\, we aim to unpack the ideological and structural continuities that tether Haiti to an intellectual tradition unbefitting the country’s reality. With the help of an incredible group of scholars across disciplines\, the book club will carefully (re)consider Haiti’s invention\, formation\, and transformation—an undertaking that is consequential for our understanding of Haiti today. \nOn September 24\, Professor Jessica Marie Johnson and Professor Crystal Eddins will join us to discuss “Slavery & Freedom.” \nThis conversation will be conducted in English\, but live Haitian Creole translation is available. Open to the public. Registration is required.
