SUMMARY:The Haitians: A Decolonial History (Book Discussion\, Part III)
DESCRIPTION:The Haitians Book Club is an interdisciplinary working group that welcomes students and scholars\, both inside and outside the academy\, to a series of discussions about “The Haitians: A Decolonial History\,” author Jean Casimir’s landmark work of theory and history. Over the course of the series\, we aim to unpack the ideological and structural continuities that tether Haiti to an intellectual tradition unbefitting the country’s reality. With the help of an incredible group of scholars across disciplines\, the book club will carefully (re)consider Haiti’s invention\, formation\, and transformation—an undertaking that is consequential for our understanding of Haiti today. \nOn October 15\, Professor Chelsey Kivland and Professor Nathalie Pierre will join us to discuss “Sovereignty & The State” as a key theme in the text. \nThis conversation will be conducted in English\, but live Haitian Creole translation is available.
