SUMMARY:Student Playwrights Festival 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Student Playwrights Festival is a full production of original one-act plays written by Princeton students\, hosted annually by Theatre Intime to showcase the creativity and talent of Princeton student playwrights! \nEach play is written\, directed\, designed\, and performed entirely by Princeton students – don’t miss out on a chance to support original student theater written by Princeton students and see the premiere of three short plays for the price of one! \nABOUT THE SHOWS \nEQUILIBRIUM\nBy Saareen Junaid ‘23\nDirected by Nica Evans ‘24 \nNote: This show contains physical violence and distressing family relationships. Please prioritize your comfort in choosing to engage with this production. \nEquilibrium is about a Bangladeshi Muslim immigrant family of three\, a mother and her two daughters. The mother\, Dolly\, has been trying relentlessly to get her eldest daughter\, Aashi\, married. One day\, Dolly gives Aashi an ultimatum\, and Aashi and her little sister Inaya must collaborate to reclaim her own life. It is a play about autonomy\, desperation\, love for family\, and love for freedom. \nFERRY\nBy Marina Cooper ‘21\nDirected by Brenden Garza ‘25 \nNote: This show contains some graphic language\, attempted violence and implications of death. Please prioritize your comfort in choosing to engage with this production. \nMercy Pryor has lived on a small island all her life (or so she says). She prides herself on her hospitality\, but when she welcomes a mysterious stranger into her home during what might be an apocalyptic rainstorm\, there’s something about them that seems just a little too familiar. \nTIME PASSES\nWritten and directed by Daniel Viorica ‘25 \nNote: This show contains mentions of war and death; grief; and unhealthy family dynamics and prejudice. Please prioritize your comfort in choosing to engage with this production. \nWhen Elena moves from rural New Mexico to Indiana with her fiancée\, James\, she hopes to settle down and finally write a book of poems. But in the home of her in-laws-to-be\, nothing is easy\, and nothing is quite as it seems. What should she make of James’ parents? His restless\, ambitious sister? Her own inability to write after leaving home? Dealing with themes of love\, grief\, loneliness\, and artistic inspiration\, Time Passes follows Elena as banality makes way for sudden change. \nPerformances are March 25th-27th at 8:00 PM at Theatre Intime. Tickets are $8 for students or free through Passport to the Arts\, $10 for faculty & seniors\, and $12 for general audiences. Buy tickets online at tickets.princeton.edu (preferred)\, the Frist ticketing office at 609-258-9220\, or at the Theatre Intime box office 45 minutes before each show time.
