SUMMARY:Princeton French Film Festival | Screening of "Saint Omer" (2022) by Alice Diop followed by Q&A with filmmaker
DESCRIPTION:As part of the second edition of the Princeton French Film Festival\, you’re invited to the free screening of Alice Diop’s multi-award-winning Saint Omer (2022) based on a true and moving story. \nRama\, a literature professor and novelist\, travels from Paris to Saint-Omer to observe the trial of Laurence Coly and write about the case. Coly is a student and Senegalese immigrant accused of leaving her 15-month-old daughter on a beach to be swept away by the tide in Berck. Rama\, who is four-months pregnant and\, like Coly\, is in a mixed-race relationship and has a complex relationship with her own Senegalese immigrant mother\, feels a personal connection to Coly. She plans to write a modern day retelling of the Greek Medea myth about the case. \nFree and open to everyone upon registration\, this screening will take place on Tuesday\, April 16\, 2024 at 7:30 PM (doors open at 7:15 PM) in Princeton University’s McCosh Hall 10 in its original language (French) with English subtitles. \nCheck out the Festival’s whole schedule on our website.
