DESCRIPTION:Gauss Seminars in Criticism \nThe Humanities Council announces this year’s Gauss Seminars in Criticism\, featuring Eduardo Viveiros de Castro\, world-renowned Brazilian anthropologist and professor at the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The lecture\, entitled “Misanthropology: Varieties and Variations\,” will take place on Tuesday\, March 28\, at 5pm in 101 McCormick Hall\, and will be telecast. Reception to follow. Free and open to the public. \nHe is author of an extraordinary range of influential works including (in English) From the Enemy’s Point of View: Humanity and Divinity in an Amazonian Society (Chicago\, 1992)\, The Inconstancy of the Indian Soul: The Encounter of Catholics and Cannibals in 16th-century Brazil (Chicago\, 2012)\, Cannibal Metaphysics: For a Post-structural Anthropology (Minnesota\, 2014)\, and now a new study with the philosopher Déborah Danowski entitled The Ends of the World (Polity\, 2017).
