SUMMARY:Faculty Workshop: New Technologies for Teaching and Learning with Images
DESCRIPTION:New technologies for delivering high-quality\, high-resolution images are changing the way that libraries\, museums\, and archives make visual resources available and are inspiring the creation of new tools for viewing\, annotating\, and working with digital images. These new tools and technologies offer exciting possibilities for how we make use of images for teaching and learning. The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF\, pronounced “triple-eye-F”) is a suite of open-source technical standards built to address the common needs of cultural heritage organizations that deliver digital images of their collections. But IIIF is also more than a technical standard: it is a rich community of people engaged in the use of digital media for research\, preservation\, and scholarship. \nThis session\, led by Julia Gearhart\, Director of the Visual Resources Collection the Department of Art & Archaeology\, and Ben Johnston\, Senior Educational Technologist in the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning\, will provide participants with an introduction to the framework with a focus on how digital images (and other media) can be used in the classroom\, including an overview of the tools available for working with digital images\, the process by which images may be made available within the Canvas learning management system\, and the types of assignments afforded by those tools.
