SUMMARY:Archiving America: A Hemispheric Approach
DESCRIPTION:Kirsten Silva Gruesz will discuss the promise and challenge of working with “Transamerican” methodologies and archives that necessitate a hemispheric understanding. How does our understanding of Americanity shift when we look across nation\, time\, and language? How do categories of race\, ethnicity\, and gender shift over the Americas? What can we learn from the strange story of latinidad that develops and shifts across variegated temporal and geographical terrain? How might this hemispheric story reshape our relation to other cultural configurations across the Americas? \nKirsten Silva Gruesz is professor of Literature\, University of California\, Santa Cruz and the Spring 2020 Visiting Whitney J. Oates Fellow in the Humanities Council and the Department of English. \nRSVP to Melissa Andrie mandrie@princeton.edu. \n
