SUMMARY:Archival Silences Working Group: Building the Archive
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to “collect”? To build “an archive”? When speaking of “the archive” it can be easy to think that the objects in collections are inherently meant to belong there\, but is that truly the case? In conversation with Amy Hildreth Chen (author of Placing Papers)\, Ryan Flahive (archivist and Museum Studies faculty at the Institute of American Indian Arts)\, Rebecca Romney (bookseller at Type Punch Matrix)\, and Rachel E. Winston (Black Diaspora Archivist at The University of Texas at Austin)\, we will be interrogating issues of bias\, value\, and access that come with collecting for the archive. \nNow in its third year\, the Archival Silences Working Group presents a public webinar series highlighting work that redresses the blind spots of institutional repositories. \nFor more information\, please contact organizers Emma Sarconi (Princeton University Library) at esarconi@princeton.edu or Kinohi Nishikawa (English; African American Studies) at kinohin@princeton.edu. \nArchival Silences is presented by the Humanities Council. \nRegister in advance for this webinar.
