Council Acting Chair Joins Humanities Advocates in Washington

March 27, 2023

On March 20, Tera Hunter (History and African American Studies), acting chair of the Humanities Council, and Rachel DeLue (Effron Center and Art & Archaeology),  joined colleagues from across the country in Washington, D.C., for Humanities Advocacy Day.

The event, organized by the National Humanities Alliance, explored approaches to year-round advocacy on college campuses and in local communities and featured panel discussions on the impact of the humanities, as well as expanding access to undergraduate humanities education.

Hunter and DeLue, along with representatives from Montclair State University and Rutgers University, met with members of the congressional offices of Sens. Cory Booker and Robert Menendez and Reps. Thomas Kean, Mikie Sherrill, and Bonnie Watson to advocate for federal funding for the humanities.
