Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, the Assistant Professor and Charles H. Mcilwain University Preceptor in the Department of African American Studies was selected as a finalist for the prize in History by the Pulitzer Prize. She was recognized for her book, Race for Profit: How Banks and the Real Estate Industry Undermined Black Homeownership, described on the Pulitzer website as “a deeply researched and rigorously argued account of the public-private partnership that replaced redlining with even more predatory and destructive practices.”
In an announcement in the Daily Princetonian, Taylor expressed her surprise at receiving the honor, “After several hours, I think I just feel a lot of appreciation and gratitude for the recognition of the book and hopefully the history it has tried to shine a light on.”
Other Princetonians to receive Pulitzer recognition in 2020 were Ben Taub ’14 (The New Yorker), a former Journalism student, and Politics alumna Juliet Eilperin ’92 (The Washington Post).
